The Umunankwo-Mputu-Ogwuaniocha road in Ogbaru Council Area of Anambra State is to be made motorable before June this year.
Governor Willie Obiano made the promise when he inspected ongoing construction work on the 14 kilometer road yesterday.The construction of the 14 kilometer road was awarded by the previous administration and continued by the Obiano administration in keeping with its continuity stance.
During the inspection, it was observed that excavation of muddy soil has been achieved on about 8.5 kilometer length while filling with sharp sand was ongoing .
Governor Obiano who spoke after the inspection, said his interest is to create to communities in the area who are major food producers noting that despite its very difficult terrain, his government will provide funds within its resources to make it passable before the rains.
He said asphalting work will commence on the road immediately after the rainy season.
Noting that he was satisfied with the work done already on the road by the contractor, Governor Obiano said through constant supervision, the State Government will ensure that the project is executed with best standards.
The Commissioner for Rail, Road and Water Transportation, Princess Chinwe Nwebili commended governor Obiano for keeping his promise to continue and complete all projects left behind by his predecessor.
The traditional ruler of Ogwuaniocha, Igwe Oliver Nnaji who noted the road is the only entrance to their community, narrated how his people suffer due to bad road and thanked Governor Obiano for his promise to make the road motorable before the rains.
For his part, the Contractor handling the project, Mr Tony Madi said they have mobilized fully to site due to the support of the governor, and will soon move to stonebase after the filling stage, assuring that they will deliver the Project in line with specifications.
