Ojoto Akanasato Community in Idemili South Council has announced the dethronement of its Regent/Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Gerald Mbamalu.
In a letter dated 13th of May, 2017 and signed by the Engr. Edwin Umeghalu, the President General of Ojoto Akanasato Union, OAU, and the Union's Assistant Secretary General, Prof. Leonard Edegoh, the community thanked the erstwhile regent for taking the responsibility of serving the community at the demise of HRH Igwe Augustine Obidiwe earlier last year.
It further noted that in line with the provisions of Article 28, subsection 3 and Article 31, subsection 1 of Ojoto Chieftaincy constitution, the regent's office has ended with effect from 13th May, 2017, with the adoption and ratification of Chief Dennis Adindu Okafor from Umuofor kindred of Enugo village as the new Igwe / Eze-elect of Ojoto by the General Assembly of the OAU to fill the vacant stool of Igwe/Eze-Ojoto.
Addressing the regent, the letter read, " you are therefore directed to handover your official staff of office and all the paraphernalia of the office through the President General, to the Igwe/Eze-elect of Ojoto in line with Article 23, Subsection 3 and 6 of Ojoto Chieftaincy Constitution ".
It will be recalled that the Umuofor kindred of Enugo village of the community whose turn it is to present a new Igwe in line with the constitution of the community, had earlier last weekend done so at a stakeholders' meeting of Ojoto Akanasato Union held.
