Anambra State Government has taken delivery of a spartial Aerial Photography and Digital Terrain Model for the entire State.
Governor Willie Obiano received the digital materials and documents for the project from the company that executed it, Aeroprecisa, at the State Exco Chambers, Government House, Awka.

The aerial photography covering the 2450 square kilometers of the whole state, was done at a very high resolution of 10 centimeters. It was flagged off in 2014 by the present administration after the successful completion of the aerial photography of Awka Capital Territory.
Receiving the materials, Governor Obiano who expressed happiness that the project was successfully completed under his watch, said it is vital in ensuring effective infrastructural development of the state and will continue to serve as a viable tool for subsequent administrations to consolidate on.
He further said the materials will be relevant in identifying potentials for Agricultural applications, provide coordinates that will enhance the existing security system in the State as well as help achieve so much for the state in the area of Geographic Information Management activities.
Commending the contracting firm for a job well done, Governor Obiano revealed that the state will work with them to train government officials in line Ministries and Agencies to effectively utilize the materials for the benefit of the state. In a presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of the Contracting firm, Dr Karmal Azar identified three broad areas where the aerial photography can be of immense relevance to the state to include Mapping/GIS, Land Managememt and Infrastructural Planning and said the State Government has by the gesture, projected Anambra into the comity of states who are keying into the provisions of the 21st century technological advancements to advance the fortunes of its people.
Mr Mike Okonkwo, the Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, the coordinating Agency for the Project, said the aerial photography is prelude to doing Geographic Information System under which the land management will be digitized and automated as obtains in developed cities of the world.
He further said it will create efficiency and precision that will translate into serious improvement in government's land management and development control measures with great potentials for IGR and environmental management.
For his part, a representative of the Consultants for the project, Mr Chuks Ossai said they followed through all the processes to ensure that what was delivered to the state fulfilled the necessary standards.
Formal handover of the software and other digital materials and documents for the aerial photography to the governor formed the highpoint of the event.
