Anambra State government says it will increase its support to Agro-communities of the state to ensure the full realization of the State's Agricultural potentials.
Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this during an event to mark the celebration of 100 years of Catholicism in Ayamelum Council Area of Anambra State.

Governor Obiano who noted that his administration had upon inception, developed a pragmatic blueprint for the transformation of the state agricultural sector, said through its support to the sector, majority of Anambra people from the agrarian communities did not feel the negative effects of the economic recession. According to him, Ayamelum contributed 80 percent of the paddy used to process Anambra rice in the past year, a development that resulted in economic prosperity of the area due to the increase in the price of rice, a major produce of the area. The governor revealed that his administration is presently spending a total of 160 million naira across the various communities of Ayamelum under its 20 million naira per community choose-your-project initiative and has approved for another round of the initiative immediately the 2017 State Budget is passed by the State House of Assembly.
Governor Obiano congratulated the Ayamelum Catholic Community on the Centenary celebration and urged them to hold tenaciously to the faith and ensure that Christianity firms its roots in the area.
Earlier in a homily during a Eucharistic Mass to mark the event, the Auxiliary Bishop of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Most Reverend Dennis Isizor noted that the ceremony was to bring the Ayamelum people together to pray and thank God for his mercies through which the Catholic Church has thrived in the area and to honor those who have contributed in one way or the other towards the growth of evangelism in the Council Area.
He thanked the Governor for his efforts at improving the living standards of people of the area and urged Ayamelum people to embrace education as a way to guarantee the future of the area.
The event held at St Mary's Parish, Umuerum attracted top State government functionaries as well as Catholic faithful from the area and witnessed presentation of Merit Awards to some deserving persons.
